What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?
it would have been something to see someone who performed instant miracles. peter's mother-in-law got right up and started serving them. what power.

Of course the mother-in-law started serving them, she wanted to show her gratitude!
I like how this chapter depicts the real and human reactions many people would have to seeing these miracles performed, rather than just a plain statement of what Jesus did.
I think the most surprising part of this chapter is the fact that the most faith shown towards Jesus was by a Roman and not a Jew. The centurion was probably not Jewish, but a pagan. Yet, Jesus in his equal opportunity nature, saw fit to hear and heal. Jesus' compassion in this manner should be reflected in us as we show our love to everyone, not just Christians.
cmk, i get the gratitude. i guess i'm more pointing out the aspect of how instant his miracles were. i've been sick. and some times i think i'm better, until i start doing things. but i've never been laying down - sick - and get right up and have the energy to start serving people. amazing.
and zach, good call. the gospel of matthew was written for a jewish audience. think of how this would have jumped out at them.
